Niue is known as the largest raised coral atoll in the world located in the south pacific ocean; and is commonly known as the "Rock of Polynesia" with a total estimated population of 1600. The island’s isolation and coral makeup
creates an exciting rugged coastline and reef which provides intimate
swimming coves as opposed to the typical long stretches of sandy beaches
so predominant elsewhere in the pacific. The whole island is dotted with a
myriad of caves and sheltered rocky coves, some of which have yet to be
explored. Agriculture is very important to the lifestyle of Niuean's and the economy with around 204 square kilometers of land area available for agriculture use. Niuean's mainly practice subsistence farming where almost every households have taro plantations. Cassava, yams, banana and kumara's also grow very well, as do different varieties of other crops.
